: In the first half of the film, Karan represents a generation of urban youth paralyzed by choice and lacking direction. He joins the Indian Military Academy (IMA) on a whim, simply because a friend applied.
His initial experience at the academy is disastrous. Unable to cope with the rigorous discipline and physical demands, he deserts the academy.
